Description
Ward Warehouse is at the end of Ward Avenue, near the water. It is an outdoor mall made from old warehouses of attractive dark wood. The shops are sheltered so you can walk around even if it's raining. There are some fast food places, a yogurt place on the street side, and upstairs there's Spaghetti Factory, a massive and popular restaurant with unique old-fashioned decor and lighting but not very good food. All meals come with a salad and dessert, which is kind of fun.
If you walk down Auahi Street, you will come to Ward Center where there is an attractive 16-plex theatre and many restaurants and shops, especially a Roxy store and youth Quiksilver store. There's a great atmosphere on Auahi Street at night because of all the people and the lit torches. The tropical landscaping is lovely.
Tip for tourists: There is a Starbucks on the corner of Kamakee and Auahi Streets. Starbucks is a cheaper place to buy a bowl of fruit in Hawaii than an ABC store or the supermarket. So go there when you need some nourishment!
Further east on Auahi Street, past Kamakee St, you will come to another shopping center on your right, with a Borders Bookstore, a great place to hang out.
For a nice walk along a boardwalk and palm-dotted lawns, head over to Ala Moana Beach, just across Ala Moana Blvd.
Another great shopping area that is fun for kids is Ala Moana Center, the world's largest open-air mall.
