It's peaceful to walk around Besthoff Sculpture Garden with a companion and comment on the interesting modern sculptures. There are a few pleasing traditional sculptures near the entrance but most of the statues are unusual, such as a giant safety pin. It's nice that you can enter for free, so if you need to go for a walk why not go here where you can surround yourself with art? The vegetation isn't super lush but is pleasant.
After, check out some wonderful places in City Park: Storyland, Carousel Gardens, and the New Orleans Botanical Garden (one $4 ticket allows entry to all three).
