There's lots happening at Johnson's Beach, a wide pebbly shore on the Russian River, which is open May 15- October 1 each year. Here you can rent colorful paddleboats or ocean kayaks and row along the Russian River. Views of the pine-covered banks of the river and the serene jade-green water are lovely. Up-river check out the historic Guerneville Bridge, which was due to be demolished in the 80s until it was saved and registered as a National Historical site. You can walk along it- it's now closed to cars- and enjoy peaceful views of the river. Beer is only $3.50 at Johnson's Beach and it's a fun place to relax on warm summer and autumn afternoons. Many local residents bring their kids here to swim in the summer (beware of swimmer's itch, the result of the high bacteria levels in the water). You can also use this beach as a final destination if you launch your own kayak from Steelhead beach and then have a friend pick you up here.

If you're hungry, head back along Church Street and left on River Rd to downtown Guerneville, a cute town that you can walk around, where there are many restaurants.
Don't miss out on a lovely walk through Armstrong Woods, an amazing redwood forest with an easy trail, that is just a few minutes from Guerneville town along Armstrong Woods Rd.
For some kiddie fun in the summertime, check out historical Pee Wee Mini Golf, which is in a pretty location, and had some unusual holes- it's a lot of fun!
