Plaza Park, Downtown Ventura

Ventura, California, USA

Plaza Park is in a beautiful spot! Backed by the eucalyptus-covered hills of Ventura, it is a lush park with big, lovely, old trees. The centerpoint is a tall playground. Also wonderful is the large, pretty pagoda and the 136 year old Moreton Bay Fig Tree from Australia. Historical houses on Thompson Blvd add to the atmosphere. There is an old Spanish cannon that boys enjoy climbing on and plenty of grass for kids to run free.
From here you can walk north one block to the main strip of Downtown Ventura and grab an icecream cone from Ben and Jerry's. City Hall, with its revival architecture, is also great to walk around.
From Plaza Park, walk south on California Street and over the freeway to Ventura Pier, a fantastic spot where you can walk on the pier, eat a meal, play in the playground in the sand, and stroll along the promenade to Surfer's Point.
