Esplanade Shopping Plaza in Oxnard is a colorful, attractive outdoor mall. There are some great stores and a sunny area to sit and sip a coffee surrounded by palms. Kids climb the dolphin statues and roam the party goods store. Older kids like the clothes at Tilly's and Nordstrom's Rack. When you're hungry, try a taco at La Salsa Mexican Grill, a bright fastfood restaurant.
Most of Oxnard is industrial agriculture but there are some nice areas to check out while you're here, such as Downtown Oxnard with its gorgeous Plaza Park. Beach areas to see are Port Hueneme with its white sand and cool pier. Oxnard Beach has some great dunes. Channel Islands Harbor has a nice playground by the water at Peninsula Park.
