Las Flores Creek Park is a great find! At the base of a canyon road in Malibu is this little park with the most delightful play equipment! On bright blue rubber cement you will find a wooden boat, a toddler-sized space net that spins around, frog and fish sculptures to climb, slides made of beautiful polished wood that resemble surfboards, rock walls with ropes to tightrope, wood cubes to climb, a teeter-totter, and a rectangular jumper. Your kids will have a wonderful time as their imagination flows freely! The surroundings beside a creek lush with plants and wildflowers make for a nice setting. The malibu hills with purple bougainvillea and mansions add to the sweet deal. There is plenty of shade, and picnic tables but no restrooms.
If you drive to the top of this canyon road, you will come to a lookout, at the intersection of Las Flores Rd and Rambla Pacifico St, with exquisite canyon and sea views. This area burned in a wildfire in 1994 but has since been rebuilt.
A nice shopping center to check out near here is the Malibu Colony Plaza, with a Starbucks with outdoor seating beside a Spanish fountain. Even better if you have kids is Malibu Country Mart, an outdoor mall with glorious mountain views and a kid's playground with swings and sandpit. My favorite is Malibu Lumber Yard, a two-storey mall made entirely of hardwood with palm trees, mountain views, and live music on weekends. Don't miss out on a visit to the Getty Villa, an exquisite mansion above the sea with ancient Greek and Roman art and a dazzling main courtyard with sculptures by a pool.
