If you want to do some shopping while in downtown Miami near Brickell Ave, check out Mary Brickell Village outdoor mall. It has all the shops you need, in a dense city area with tall, glistening skyscrapers above. There are colorful, modern decorations along its dark-hued walls. The nice thing about being in a city area while in Florida is that there is always shade from the buildings, making the intense heat more bearable.
In this mall you can find plenty of eateries, such as a juice place, gelateria, taqueria, sushi place, donut shop, health food cafe, and P.F. Chang's restaurant.
After, stroll along the wonderful walking paths at River Walk Trail and around Brickell Key.
Mary Brickell owned land and helped grow this area south of the Miami River in the late 19th century. Born in England in 1836, she grew up in Australia where she met her husband William, and they moved to Cleveland, Ohio. They had eight children. In 1871, they moved to Brickell Point in Miami, and ran a trading post and post office. She would ask "How are you living?" to disadvantaged people that she met. She lent money to African American and Seminole Indian residents. Donating land to Flagler for the railroad, she was instrumental in bringing development to Miami.
Mary Brickell Village is located at 901 S Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33130. You can get there by the Miami Metromover.
