Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, in a random spot in Raleigh, is a wonderful, blessed place to visit. You can walk around the huge, gorgeous church, admiring each colorful statue. Many saints are represented, male and female, from many different races and countries. There is a beautiful alcove with a sculpture of Mary, plus a painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe on the wall. St. Patrick has a particularly striking statue. The stations of the cross are represented by paintings around the cathedral. The famous "Jesus, I Trust in You" painting is on one wall in the back. At each painting or sculpture, you can pay $3 and light a candle, offering up a prayer for whatever is on your heart. Look up at the light-filled rotunda and admire the pretty colors of the stained glass all around you.
The staff are friendly and it's nice to greet them.
If you'd like to hear the amazing, huge organ, there are concerts every few months. A Bach organ concert, for example, is on March 12, 2019.
Too bad the surroundings of this cathedral are not pretty. Also, it is not in a walkable area so you must drive to it.
After, drive three minutes to visit Pullen Park, the main park of Raleigh, which has a cute carousel, lake, train rides, and playground. During the springtime it's peaceful to visit the WRAL Azalea Garden, a two minute drive away.
If you're hungry, have lunch or dinner (with live music) on Morgan Street, at Irregardless Cafe, a five minute drive away.
Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral is located at 715 Nazareth Street, Raleigh NC 27606.
Open to visitors M-F 10-2. There is plenty of parking.
Or you can come for a mass on Saturday evening or several times throughout Sunday.
