Usually I love gardens but I was pretty uninspired by NC Botanical Garden. It has a nice sunny meadow-like area in front of the main building, with some flower beds. There are trails outside the back fence. A herb garden has some nice herbs to smell. Kids can play with a giant chess set. The children's area has sectioned off paths so that kids can run around them, but not too much for kids to do. Some sweet flowers to be seen are Curlyheads, Wild Indigo, and Sweet Mountain Phlox.
There are much nicer gardens to explore in the Research Triangle. The most famous is Sarah P. Duke Garden, which is wonderful. My favorite smaller garden is WRAL Azalea Garden, which is artistically laid out and so uplifting to walk around in spring. JC Raulston Arboretum has many large multi-colored flowers.
