Old Chapel Hill Road Playground is especially good for older kids! They will delight in this playground even if they haven't care for playgrounds since growing older. It's fun to revisit those happy playground days with them! The rope structure is a blast. Kids can climb up and sit on different spots, way up high. Or climb a wooden ladder.
The skateboarding structure is another cool feature. Kids can hold on and then zip up and down as if skateboarding, but the bearings need replacing for this to work better.
There are also stepping stones, a large circular spinner for many kids, and individual spinners.
For little kids, there's a smaller play structure, a car to drive, baby swings, and flat swings (these are nicer than your typical swing). Little kids can also ride their tricycles along the greenway that borders the park.
In April, daisies and wisteria grow beside the playground.
Walk along the greenway to the field and you might find a friendly group playing ultimate frisbee (Sunday afternoons).
Check the directions below to find the park, which is hidden.
Come when it's cloudy because there's no shade over the playground.
New Hope Bottomlands Greenway is another spot you can check out at this park. Follow the directions below but instead of walking south on the greenway at the roundabout (to the playground), walk north onto New Hope Bottomlands Greenway.
After, have a delicious pastry or meal at Gulghupf Bakery, Durham, sitting on their blissful patio. It's a nine minute drive to the northeast.
Old Chapel Hill Road Park Playground is hard to find. You enter the park from 3800 SW Durham Drive, Durham. Park in the second parking lot. Then continue (walking) past the roundabout, and walk south onto the greenway. You will walk past the ultimate frisbee field, and then continue along the greenway some more. Then you will reach the playground. Basically the playground is only accessible by foot, and the walk is quite long when it's a hot day.
For a shorter walk, park in the Sherwood Githens Middle School parking lot at 4800 Old Chapel Hill Rd and then walk along Old Chapel Hill Road to the park.
