Kure Beach is a cute town with pastel-colored beach houses and a turquoise horizon. Cabbage palms give it a tropical vibe. You feel the excitement as you approach the pier or the little beach access boardwalks. You can see the strip of azure water on the horizon! The sand is a dark golden color and there are shells on the shore. You can hear the shells make a sweet sound as the waves roll them on the shore. Stay a while and build a sand castle and jump in the bouncy waves. The water is not crystal clear like Florida but it does have a lovely blue-green hue. The pier gives the beach a sense of place.
Kure Beach is one of my favorite beaches in North Carolina. The architecture is just perfect! And the beach itself has clean sand and pretty water.
Carolina Beach is the next beach to the north of Kure Beach, and has a fun feeling, with lots of ice cream shops and a boardwalk with an amusement park and fireworks.
Make sure you visit North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, a top-notch aquarium. And don't miss out on walking the grounds of Fort Fisher Historic Site, which are so magical! The 1921 Fort Fisher Monument is also a nice spot, on the ocean, with huge rocks along the shore.
Kure Beach Pier is located at 100 Atlantic Ave, Kure Beach NC 28449. There is free parking. Come early because parking is limited. You can also park along the road for free and use a beach access path to get to the sand. Watch out for biting ants- their nests are in the grass by the roadside parking. Wear shoes not slippers when you get out the car!
