The salt marshes of the Carolinas are so magical. I've always wanted to get closer to one, and here at the Marsh Walk, you can! A short boardwalk leads you over the salt marsh to a gazebo. This area is especially pleasant in the evening, after a meal at one of the Yacht Basin Drive seafood restaurants. You first walk past the loveliest 1870s houses on Brunswick Street. What a prime location! Then you will find the boardwalk. Along the boardwalk you can often spot rare birds. We saw a gorgeous one with a yellow spot on its black wings. Across the water you can see the pretty colors of the buildings where you just ate! This is one of the prettiest spots in North Carolina, so don't miss it!
After, check out the names of the yachts at Southport Marina, just steps to the west.
Or, walk east ten minutes to the Southport Fishing Pier and Waterfront Park, and sit on the blue adirondack chairs in front of Fort Johnston.
The Marsh Walk is located at 522 Brunswick Street. There is no parking so if you need parking, drive to 201 N. Caswell Ave and park your car along the road. Then you can walk along W. Brunswick Street to the Marsh Walk. There is a blue sign at the entrance that says "Salt Marsh Boardwalk and Waterway Overlook."
