Abacoa Town Center is a development with restaurants and sports bars that cater to the baseball fans that come for spring training games at Roger Dean Stadium. The architecture is plain and uninspiring, but there are some nice palm trees, bougainvillea and murals. Special events are also held at the stadium and at the town center throughout the year. The center has a narrow main street, Town Center Drive, that is closed off during special events and makes for a cozy setting, with banners stretching across the street. Where the street ends, there is a large lawn area with a blue fountain and covered stage where summer movies on the green are held. Some cool events happen at Abacoa Town Center, the best being the July 4 celebration. There are free crafts for the kids, a bounce house and train rides, fun live music, and because it is July, the evening feels warm! Fireworks take place later in the evening around 10pm. Another popular event is the Food Truck Invasion every second Friday of the month from 5:30-10pm.
During Hanukkah in late November, a helicopter drops forty pounds of chocolate coins at Abacoa Town Center by the stage, organized by Chabad of Jupiter. What a blast! Register at their website.
On regular days, you can enjoy Duke's Tacos, a yummy pizza place called Costello's with nice outdoor seating, and Copacabana Cuban Restaurant, which is gorgeous at night with outdoor seating surrounded by lit-up palm trees and even square lights in the ground! Come when live music is playing- Jupiter Jazz Collective is as good as a university Jazz combo!
There are some breweries in Abacoa with picnic tables along the street. Check out Brick and Barrel, Civil Society, and DAS Beer Garden, which has bands on Fri/Sat 7-10, and acoustic guitar on Sun 4-7, and live music on some weekday nights (usually Monday and Thurs). The crowd is young families and older sports lovers.
Crux Coffee Roasters has pleasant outdoor seating, and good lemon poppy seed muffins (ask if they were baked fresh because they are only good on those days) and tea. Students from across the street sometimes hang out here.
Florida Atlantic University Wilkes Honors campus is right across the street but you never see very many students since there are only 800 of them. Max Planck Institute is also across the street and researchers walk over to Abacoa Town Center for lunch.
Lighthouse Cove Adventure Golf at Abacoa has tropical landscaping and plenty of shade. The music is top 40 pop.
After lunch, enjoy a walk in the forest of the Abacoa Greenway and you will most likely see a gopher tortoise! It's also lovely to walk the streets of the Abacoa neighborhoods, enjoying the Caribbean, Victorian, and Colonial architecture of the houses.
