Bird Rock Vista Point, La Jolla

There's always something exciting happening at Bird Rock Vista Point, where two levels of balconies afford good views of the bird behavior below. Bird Rock is a rock jutting out of the ocean, and for some reason the pelicans and birds absolutely love it here. They dive bomb for fish, and fight over the leftover morsels. It's fun to escape from life by getting caught up in their funny antics.

The views to the right are lovely too- of the rugged La Jolla coastline, with black rocks, golden cliffs, purple ice plant on the cliff, beach houses, and palm trees galore.
After, walk south to delightful Calumet Park with its ice plant on the cliff in spring and its amazing-sounding pebbles on the beach below. Further south is Pacific Beach Point, where you can see Pacific Beach Pier and walk down stairs to a beach of huge pebbles. Walk north to La Jolla Hermosa Park, a small lookout over a rocky cove. It's fun to check out the beach houses and these four lookouts, on a walk along Calumet Ave.
After, walk back from the ocean a few blocks and have a smoothie at Seaside Surf Cafe, where you can sit out on their expansive patio and watch people walk by. There are lots of cute cafes along La Jolla Blvd in Bird Rock.
