It's lovely to wander around the San Diego Museum of Art when you are visiting Balboa Park. The museum is housed in a sumptuous building, inside and out. There are two stories of galleries. It takes an hour to see the entire museum. The collection of religious art from Europe is particularly strong.
The museum has a counter-service patio cafe called Panama 66, open for lunch and dinner (see hours below), with a lovely lawn with modern-art sculptures as the backdrop. They sometimes have live music, around 6:30pm. The food is delicious.
San Diego Museum of Art is located at 1450 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92102. The Organ Pavilion Parking Lot has many spaces and is free, and it is a seven minute walk from the museum. You can also park for free in the Veterans Museum Parking Lot and walk 14 minutes to the museum.
