Sunset Cliffs is a wealthy neighborhood with a casual beach feel. Here you can walk a precarious path on cliffs above a set of coves. You will be surrounded by wildflowers while savoring views of the turquoise waters below. You feel like diving in for a swim but no doubt the water is colder than it looks. The road and jogging path hug the cliffs, and several pull-offs provide a place to park and join the joggers. At the southern end of Sunset Cliffs Blvd is the beginning of Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, where people stand to watch the surfers riding a fantastic break. Surfers take stairs with metal handrails to access the water. Behind this buzzing scene is the Natural Park with flowers and tall grasses growing wild and a curving path leading up the hill over jagged red cliffs. What a fun place for a hike! Kids will love to let lose after being constricted in the city environment. In spring Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is full to the brim with thousands of yellow and white daisies. It's an incredible place to be! The path along Sunset Cliffs Blvd is also lined with yellow and purple flowers in spring.
The side streets in Point Loma to the north of Sunset Cliffs Blvd, such as Del Mar Ave, have very cute craftsman houses with little gardens that are sure to delight you! It is particularly lovely to walk here in springtime. Each street ends at various lookouts and beach access points that are fun to explore.
After, have a meal in the sweet garden area of Peace Pies. Usually I don't like vegan cafes that much but their tuna wrap is wrapped in an amazing green wrap that is so natural and thin. The flavors they create at Peace Pies are delicious! The wrap comes with kale chips that are pure kale with so much flavor! Finish off your meal with a slice of pie such as Lemon Blueberry Pie, all vegan. It tastes so good!
While you're at Point Loma, don't miss out on Cabrillo National Monument where you'll feel like you're on top of the world, looking down on San Diego Bay and Coronado Beach. It is one of the most stunning places in San Diego.
North of Point Loma is the town of Ocean Beach, where partying students choose to live. It has many homeless people and some crime. Dog Beach is a grimey but popular spot by the pier, with little bouquets of yellow flowers on the dunes in springtime.
If you're hungry, head over to Liberty Station Marketplace in Point Loma, a 14 minute drive away. Here you can have a beer in the koi gardens of Stone Brewing, or a sandwich at Con Pane Bakery, delighting in their tall windows.
Sunset Cliffs are a series of cliffs and coves at the southernmost last few blocks of Sunset Cliffs Blvd in Point Loma. Pull into one of the vehicle pull-offs, or park along the road on Ladera St beside Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. Even on the weekend, there is plenty of parking.
There are no restrooms.
Peace Pies, 4230 Voltaire St, San Diego, CA 92107. Open daily 11-8.
