Hobe Sound Beach is a beautiful beach on Jupiter Island, where the vegetation is lush and tropical, the sand is a dark grey, and the water can be an amazing blue-green. This beach has a huge picnic pavilion where locals gather in the shade to admire the technicolor water, cool down in the sea breeze, and chat. It's gorgeous to walk the Banyan tree walk on Bridge Rd and end at the beach, letting the cool breeze wash over you. There is a cute statue in front of a mural showing turtle hatchlings running to shore. You can walk for miles on empty beach if you walk north to Nathaniel Reed Beach (Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge), also called Bonair Beach. The only person you'll see is an occasional fisherman.
Check out the abundance of coconut trees and yellow wildflowers in the parking lot.
On weekends, this beach gets quite popular, with local teens and young families. Sunrise is also a popular time, when nature lovers gather to enjoy the colors.
There is yoga at Hobe Sound Beach on Saturdays at 9am, and Tuesdays at 6:15am.
From the parking lot you can walk north on North Beach Road, past flower beds, mansions, sea grape trees, and coconut trees. It's very shady in the morning and takes you 1.8 miles to Nathaniel Reed Beach. From the parking lot you can also walk south on South Beach Road, past Norfolk pines, ironwood trees, banyan trees, and tropical flowers, in good morning shade! There is a sidewalk after 1.4 miles, and you can continue on sidewalk for six more miles!
After your beach visit, stop for a browse at Hobe Sound Christian Bookstore, which has a cute kids section. You pull into the driveway after you see the sign, then make a loop to the right and it is on your right.
Have a coffee after, at Hobe Sound Bible College Coffee Shoppe, if its a weekday (open M-F 7am-noon, 1-4:45pm, closed on weekends). It is in Addison Student Center, at the end of the parking lot between Bethel Way and Sunrise Way, just a short walk from the bookstore. The parking lot is just a few feet north of Bethel Way and the coffee shop is set back from other buildings, hidden- look for the fountain in front!
Or have a tea or coffee in Hobe Sound town at Hobe Sound Social and Coffee, which has cute outdoor seating that catches a nice breeze which comes off the ocean a mile away. The owners are friendly to talk to. It is a four minute drive from the beach, or a 22 minute walk, mostly under the banyan trees. It is open weekdays 7-3, Sat 7-12, Sun 8-12.
For a nice hike on white sand to the top of a hill, check out Hobe Sound Hill Trail. It also has a yellow sand dune!
Also check out Hobe Sound Nature Center, a cute place with amazing animals and friendly docents. It is located on a ridge with stairs down to a white sand intracoastal beach, a tropical paradise.
Hobe Sound is named after the Jobe Indians who lived here. In the late 1600s a British merchant ship sailing from Jamaica was shipwrecked south of here, along with 25 people, and plenty of sugar, rum, beef, molasses, and Spanish coins. Jupiter Island, the barrier island on which Hobe Sound Beach is located, is home to Tiger Woods, country singer Alan Jackson, Celine Dion, and Michael Jordan. Former President George H. W. Bush also used to live here.
From Highway 1 or Highway A1A, head toward the ocean on SE Bridge Rd. The drive is incredible, under the banyan trees and over the intracoastal! At the end of the road is the free parking lot for Hobe Sound Beach.
