Westwood Village

Los Angeles, California, USA

Westwood Village is a beautiful area of shops and cafes that extends out from the UCLA campus. The architecture is very appealing, and there is a hip atmosphere because of all the students walking around. It is very fun to come to Westwood Village! The main streets with the best feel are Westwood Blvd and Broxton Ave. The trees on these streets are lit up at night all year round, making for a magical atmosphere.
There are plenty of coffee shops to choose from, including Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Le Pain Quotidien, and Pete's Coffee. Fast counter-service cafes make this an easy place to eat with kids. Cava is a great choice- similar to Chipotle but with pita bread rather than tortillas (or you can have salad as a base), and yummier flavors overall.
While you're here, walk into the Hammer Museum, which has free admission. The galleries are on the third floor and contain mostly temporary modern art exhibits. The real gem though is the gallery with the permanent collection of mostly late 19th century European art, including a painting by Van Gogh.
Walk fifteen minutes north on Westwood Blvd past all the medical buildings and you will come finally to the UCLA campus. First you will see Bruin Walk with its bear sculpture and the UCLA bookstore. Continue walking north to a large field and then walk up the huge stairs on the right and you will come to the magical quad called Dickson Court where the most fantastic UCLA buildings are located. On a warm spring evening, it feels like you're in Europe!
