Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial

Washington DC, DC, USA

Description

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial sits in a wonderful spot on the northwest edge of the Tidal Basin. You can enjoy cool breezes here while admiring the Stone of Hope, Martin Luther King Jr. To get to the Stone of Hope sculpture, you must walk through the Mountain of Despair, an idea from his "I Have a Dream" speech. Both are made of white granite from China, which is where the sculptor was from. The memorial has a very unique look, with its white granite stretching to the blue sky, and King rising out of the rock. He truly looks like the Stone of Hope, someone powerful who you can depend on.
Walk five minutes northwest to the Korean War Veterans Memorial, or five minutes south along the Tidal Basin to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial.
