Because Miramar Beach is fairly small and curves around, it feels different to other beaches in Santa Barbara. The strange beachhouses which line the beach give it a third-world beachtown look. Don't get me wrong though- I'd be more than happy to spend a weekend in one of them! On warm days in late summer, Miramar Beach is full of parents relaxing under beach umbrellas while their kids entertain themselves in the sand. The tide pools at the west end of the beach are a source of endless fun for kids. Swimming is good at Miramar Beach, as long as the storm drain on the east end isn't open to the sea. It's icy cold but can be fun, especially if you bring bodyboards and ride the small waves. Sometimes seals swim near you.
At the end of Eucalyptus Lane near where you enter Miramar Beach there is a trail that says "Hammonds Meadows." It takes you on a sand path past tropical plants and flowers to Hammonds Beach, a beach lined with mansions in English country-cottage style.
For another place to explore, head towards the mountains on San Ysidro Ln (Eucalyptus Ln) to Manning Park, a peaceful park shaded with huge pine trees.
If you're hungry, head north on San Ysidro Ln (Eucalyptus Ln) to Upper Montecito Village for a meal where you pay and seat yourself at Pierre Lafond Bakery. Sit outside by the blue fountain- kids love it! For a beautiful hike, check out San Ysidro Trail.
