Deerfield Beach

Miami, FL, USA

Description

Deerfield Beach is a little different to most Florida beaches. Someone smart has shaped it to make it unique. It has an attractive boardwalk lined with coconut trees, grassy mounds, and thatched huts, and paved with bricks in a criss-cross design. People enjoy long walks here at all times of day and night. On the beach, little coves have been built into the shoreline with large porous yellow rocks. A pretty pier with a green tin pavilion juts out into the perfect blue-green water. Unlike the beaches around it, parking is inexpensive (bring quarters) and is right by the sand.
The sand is not the prettiest at this beach. There are also condos in the background.
Walking along the boardwalk is a pleasure in the evening. It felt like there should be live music playing under the rustling palms like in Waikiki.
One street back from the beach is a groovy area with cafes and shops, along Highway A1A. Check out Billabong Surf Shop, or Crepe Cafe.
While in the Boca vicinity, don't miss out on amazing Sugar Sand Park with its Science-themed wooden playground, spalsh pad, carousel, and small free Science museum.
Take your kids to play at the small Boca Raton Children's Museum, with antique toys in a cute pioneer house.
