Aloha Tower

Oahu, Hawaii, United States

Only during weekdays at lunchtime, there's usually something going on at Aloha Tower. Businesspeople from Honolulu walk over at lunchtime- it's a very short walk from downtown and feels great to be in sunny wide open spaces after being wedged in the dark streets of downtown between skyscrapers.
Tourists are somewhat misled to come to this place, because now that the shops and maritime museum are gone, there really isn't much going on. You can go up the tower by elevator for free and enjoy views in all directions. Watch the tugboats pull the container ships into the harbor.
I like it here at night because the lights look so pretty reflecting off the water.
Gordon Biersch Brewery has some good entrees and beer samplers. Sit outside by the water and enjoy the live music on Wed, Fri, and Sat.
Hawaii Pacific University has moved some of their classes and dorms here, replacing all the shops, so you may see some students walking around and you can browse the HPU bookstore.
Also in downtown Honolulu, but quiet and secluded, is a lush natural paradise, Foster Botanical Garden. Drive there for a walk amongst the amazing old trees, herb garden, and orchids.
