Arizona Biltmore Resort

Arizona, , USA

Arizona Biltmore Resort is a historic resort, opened in 1929, with Wright-esque architecture (Frank Lloyd Wright was the consultant for four months). My favorite part of the resort are the sprite sculptures scattered about the property, replicas of those used in Wright's Midway Gardens project in Chicago. Their geometric shape meshes well with the desert architecture found in Phoenix and their little elfin faces are a delight.
The resort is backed by the gorgeous Camelback Mountains, making it situated in the best location in Phoenix. Nearby is the Biltmore Fashion Plaza, an outdoor mall where a great atmosphere beckons you to walk around.
Drive up the palm-lined entrance to the resort and you feel relaxed and ready to explore. This hotel is one of the oldest resort hotels in America. In the main lobby, which has heavy, blocky architecture in Wright's style, check out the old photos of Hollywood stars who frequented this hotel. Ronald and Nancy Reagan spent their honeymoon here. Chewing-gum giant, William Wrigley Jr. owned the hotel for a while (he also owned Santa Catalina Island). Then walk around the 39 acres of lush gardens filled with pink hibiscus and palms, and look up at views of Piestewa Peak. Sip a cocktail under a cabana at the Catalina pool where Marilyn Monroe used to hang out. Or treat yourself to afternoon tea in the Tea Court (see details below).
Nearby, take a buns-of-steel hike at Squaw Peak Park, where cute little saguaro cactus that line the mountain will inspire you to continue on despite the heat!
Avoid traffic in Phoenix during rush hour.

Adorable sculptures in the Gold Room used for weddings and pricey Thanksgiving dinner.
