Carousel, Tilden Park, Berkeley

The carousel at Tilden Park is situated in the most beautiful forest setting. It feels wonderful as you go round and round with the forest all around you out the windows. Outside there are some picnic tables, but other than that the carousel is secluded. A store in the front sells popcorn and hot chocolate. Kids enjoy climbing up on the Thomas the Tank Engine there.

From the carousel you can drive easily around Tilden Park following the signs to the other attractions. Little Farm is a definite don't-miss-it! The animals have plenty of fresh air in the forest and there's a rock-climbing playground near the entrance. The botanic garden within Tilden Park is spectacular. Kids love the little pathways and the views of forest above and below you. Lake Anza is a peaceful spot where dragonflies hover over the water and kids play in the sand. The colors of the water and trees are lovely. Swimmers Itch is a good reason to maybe take a miss on going for a dip. Tilden Park also has steam train rides through the redwoods.
After a wonderful morning at Tilden Park, head to Solano Avenue in Berkeley for a sandwich!

Cost is $3.50 per ride, or $20 for 7 rides.
Open daily 11-6 July-Aug, open Thurs-Sun 11-5 Sept-Nov, open Fri-Sun 11-5 during winter. Call (510) 559-1004, since the carousel runs weather permitting.
The Carousel is within Tilden Park, a huge nature area that you must drive around to get places. Once in the park, there are signs everywhere so it's easy to find the Carousel/Merry-Go-Round.
From Highway 24, exit at Fish Ranch Rd and head north on Fish Ranch Rd. Turn right on Grizzly Peak Blvd. After 3 miles, turn right on Golf Course Rd. After one mile, turn right on Shasta Road. Turn left on Wildcat Canyon Rd. Once in Tilden Park, follow the signs to the Carousel/Merry-Go-Round.
