Palais de l'Ile is one of the most enchanting spots in Annecy. It is an old medieval prison, like a little castle, in the middle of the jade green River Thiou that runs through old town Annecy. You can stand on a stone bridge and look at it, lit up at night. This is one of the busiest areas of Annecy, bustling with tourists. But it is still lovely to stand here and admire the water, flower baskets, lanterns, and palace turret.
After, turn around and walk across the street to the Annecy waterfront and Jardins de l'Europe. Walk along Quai Napoleon, with views of the Chateau d'Annecy behind you and the high mountains across the lake in front of you. This is another magical spot in Annecy.
It's also nice to look at the three churches in old town Annecy at night. Eglise Saint Francois de Sales is just a few steps from Palais de l'Ile. Just a few steps further is Eglise Saint Maurice d'Annecy with its tall, metal tower silhouetted against the sky. The very best church at night is Eglise Notre Dame de Liesse, which has four sweet towers lit up perfectly at night.
Go to these spots and you have a magical date night!
After, have a meal while looking up at the stone arches of old town Annecy.
If you want to go inside the old prison (during the day), Palais de l'Ile is open 10:30-6, closed Tues, and entrance fee is $5.
Pont Perriere is the name of the bridge where you can stand and look at Palais de l'Ile.
