El Pedregal Marketplace, Carefree
Down the road from downtown Carefree is a lovely outdoor development called El Pedregal Marketplace. The designer traveled to Africa to get his ideas and modeled the area after an African open-air marketplace. It's very unusual-looking, with wonderful colors- mauve, pink, yellow, turquoise- painted on the odd-shaped walls and railings. You have to see it! Eat a meal from the downstairs Bakery Cafe, outside on the tables (closed during summer). The Mexican restaurant upstairs, Spotted Donkey Cantina, has colorful Spanish-themed decor, and good food.

El Pedregal Marketplace is located at 34505 N. Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale AZ 85266.
To get to El Pedregal, from Hwy 17, take the Carefree Hwy, and head east. At the very end you come to a T, at Tom Darrington Dr. Turn right on Tom Darrington Drive, and it's immediately on your left.
