Sedona town

Sedona, an attractive hippie town, where massive canyon walls of reddest red soar above, is one of my favorite places on earth! I always want to return here as much as I can. As you drive along the main street, Highway 89A, red rocks are in every direction! Formations such as Coffee Pot Rock, Chimney Rock, and Thunder Mountain are fun to spot. See if you can find the shapes that they are named after! It's great to have a meal in Sedona and take in the views. The best place is the incredible patio in the back of Wildflower Bread Company. This is a counter-service cafe with salads, sandwiches, delicious breakfast sandwiches, and baked goods, which makes it easy for families. The views are something you won't ever forget! This cafe is in a nice shopping center with views around every bend. There is a Chipotle, Cold Stone Creamery, and Sound Bites Grill, all with stunning views.

The main area where tourists walk around in Sedona is at Highway 89A and Apple Ave. There are plenty of tourist shops selling mystical items, plus some free parking structures. One of the parking structures, at Arroyo Roble Rd, has incredible views! At Oaxaca Mexican Restaurant, a sit-down restaurant with wait service, you can take in a panoramic view of the red rocks from a huge covered deck. The food is just ok, but the views are wonderful.
Make sure you choose a restaurant with a view- you will be missing out if you don't have an awesome view when you dine in Sedona!
Sedona is a large area, with many hikes, some quite far from the town. Some of the best hikes are along Oak Creek. Try the West Fork Oak Creek trail, a 3-mile (one way) easy hike that follows a creek through the high cliff walls of a slot canyon. It's exhilarating to look up at the cliffs above and right beside you! Fall is a nice time of year to do this hike. If you come in summer, arrive early so you can hike before it gets hot! Spring is a nice time to come because there are wildflowers of every color, hummingbirds, and butterflies in the clearing near the trailhead. Arrive early on weekends because of crowds. 
A wonderful hike is the Teacup (or Sugar Loaf) Trail, where you get fantastic views of cute rock formations above you right away from the beginning of the trailhead. It's a short hike but offers many choices of forks in the path. The desert plants are cute along the trail, as is the deep red dirt. Come early in the day because even in spring it can get hot. A 4wd tour is another option, and some people really enjoy the spiritual tours to the vortexes, electromagnetic areas from which New Agers believe healing energy emanates.

Don't miss out on the once-in-a-lifetime drive through Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff. This drive is awe-inspiring. Also not to be missed is a fun swim or wade at Slide Rock, a very special place with rocks canyons high above you and cold water on your toes. Also check out the cute town of Oak Creek, which has slightly different rock formations.

To get to the West Fork Oak Creek hike, drive north along Highway 89A for 9.5 miles from Sedona. At the 384 milepost, turn into the Call of the Canyon day area for parking. It costs $10 per car to park here. Walk a quarter mile south and you will come to the trailhead, on the west side of the highway down a paved lane that leads between a few houses.
