After three years of being closed due to the Regent's Landslide, Highway 1 in Big Sur will reopen tomorrow! Now visitors will be able to drive all the way from the Elephant Seal Viewing Point in San Simeon to Garrapata State Park in Monterey! For three years, Highway 1 was closed about halfway along, near Lucia Lodge, and you could only do half the drive and then turn back. Now you can do the drive all the way through!
Here is the drive if heading north from San Simeon:

My favorite spots are Nepenthe for lunch, the view from New Camaldoli Hermitage, Limekiln Beach, Nathaniel Owings Redwood Forest, and the view from Ragged Point.

Backlit green-blue wave at Limekiln State Beach!

Bixby Bridge is a marvel!

Little Sur River Beach and its creamy blue-green lagoon.

Driving through redwood forest.

Checking out the redwoods.

A blissful lunch at Nepenthe.

Driving the Rain Rocks Rock Shed, a structure on top of Pitkins Curve Bridge.

High up over the ocean at Nepenthe.

Like an island, a promontory at at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.
