Hightower Beach is a popular beach with locals and surfers. It has fairly flat, hard-packed sand, so people also jog at the shore. There are shells here and there but not too many. The waves are fairly strong here because the Bahamas doesn't block them like in Stuart or Jupiter. It can make it more dangerous to swim, especially since there is no lifeguard. There are also some rocks in the water. The beach has a mix of mostly elderly retired people, a few young people and families. Many Viera (a new cookie cutter development more inland) residents come to the beach here since it's one of the closest beaches to them. A cute box of beach toys with a sign telling you to borrow them and return them is a nice gesture. There is a boardwalk leading through the seagrape trees to the beach, plus a restroom and a small parking lot. If you need shade you can sit under the boardwalk, which is handy. After, grab a snack or drink at the Publix Supermarket nearby.
For a beach with a playground, check out Paradise Beach Park, eight minutes drive south.
A nice place to go with kids (9 mins south) by a canal with manatees and with a playground with huge shade canopies is Oars and Paddles Park.
Hightower Beach is located at 815 Florida A1A, Satellite Beach 32917. There is a small parking lot and restrooms.
