Aidan's Place Playground is a large accessible playground hidden in the southwest corner of Westwood Park. It is very hard to find so read the directions below carefully! Despite it being a plain-looking green and brown playground, it has a ton of cool stuff for kids to do! All around the playground are unusual things to climb, tunnels, slides, stepping stones galore, and bridges to run across. A popular area is the huge clean shaded sand pit with sand funnels and diggers. There is a cute tiled bench area with a carrot/garden theme where parents can sit. Kids love the construction truck area where they can pretend to drive a dump truck, cement mixer, and scooper. There are swings of all types, a teeter-totter, and plenty of picnic tables under shade trees, some with colorful blooms. This park is urban though, with mostly plain trees and glass highrises and plenty of concrete to see.
Afterwards, eat at the top floor of Hotel Angeleno at West Restaurant where your kids can look down on the cars way below, and the food is good. Or even better, drive nine minutes to Westwood Village, a hip and beautiful area where UCLA students frequent counter-service cafes and coffee shops.
Another large playground with less freeway noise is Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills.
Aidan's Place Playground is on the southwest corner of Westwood Park at around 1382 South Sepulveda Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90025. It is hard to find because the street address given is always for the recreation center across Sepulveda Blvd. Also there is no sign on the road showing you where the driveway to the park is, except a tennis lessons sign (this is the best way to see the driveway). You would not know there is a park or playground in there from what it looks like from the road (concrete jungle).
West Restaurant, Hotel Angeleno, 170 N. Church Lane, Los Angeles CA 90049, call (310) 481-7878.
