King Gillette Ranch is a visitor center on the land formerly owned by the razor magnate, in the Santa Monica mountains. The visitor center is really nicely done, and it's definitely worth a visit! There are plenty of hands-on exhibits for kids, flaps to lift, buttons to push to light up a topographic map, scents to sniff, and a concrete pipe to climb through. Visitors can learn about the drought, the wildlife in the Santa Monica mountains, the movies filmed around here, and the other ranches in the area, such as Paramount Ranch, which is also fun to visit.
There is a one mile hike to a vista point. Also, as you drive in you see the eucalyptus allee that Gillette planted. The grass is surprisingly green here, which is a pleasant sight.
Just two minutes away is the Malibu Hindu Temple, where you can feel like you're in India, looking at the intricate details.
After, have a lovely meal and a stroll past landscaping and sculptures at Calabasas Commons, 13 minutes drive away toward LA.
King Gillette Ranch is located at 26800 Mulholland Hwy, Calabasas, CA 91302. There is a parking lot. Entrance is free.
