Malaga Cove Plaza is an old, rustic Spanish Renaissance building with arches that stretch out before you. It was built in 1925 and is gracefully situated at the base of a hill, just minutes from the sea. Its Neptune fountain adds to the carefree, wealthy 1920s feel, and is a replica of a fountain from Bologna, Italy.
There's not much here now, as far as stores, but the Malaga Cove Ranch Market has some great deli sandwiches, pizza, and health-food store items. Come after a long walk on the sea cliffs at Paseo Del Mar.
An absolute "don't miss this one!" while you're in the area is Wayfarer's Chapel, a short drive through the open wilderness area of Palos Verdes. Once there, you'll find a peaceful sanctuary, a glass chapel tucked amongst pines overlooking the sea and Abalone Cove.
From Highway 1, after you've driven south through the town of Redondo Beach, turn right on Palos Verdes Blvd. Head south on Palos Verdes Blvd for 1.4 miles and then turn right at the triangle, onto Palos Verdes Dr West. Immediately turn left on Via Chico which leads into the parking lot for Malaga Cove Plaza.
From the 405 heading north, exit at Highway 91 and turn right on Highway 91 (Artesia Blvd). Turn left on Hawthorne Blvd (Hwy 107). After 2.5 miles, turn right on W. Torrance Blvd. After almost 2 miles turn left on Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy). After 1.4 miles, turn right on Palos Verdes Blvd. Head south on Palos Verdes Blvd for 1.4 miles and then turn right at the triangle, onto Palos Verdes Dr West. Immediately turn left on Via Chico which leads into the parking lot for Malaga Cove Plaza.
From Highway 405 southbound, exit at Rosecrans Ave West and turn right at the exit. After 1.5 miles turn left on Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy) and follow the directions above.
