Manhattan Beach Strand, or The Strand, is a wide, gorgeous walkway above Manhattan Beach. You can walk for miles, with friendly fitness-lovers. The views of the white sand beach and curling waves are inspiring. And to top it off, there are flowers galore, of all different varieties. You can enjoy the views of the flowers backed by the blue sea. Colorful benches dot the path. People sit there savoring their morning coffee. The Strand runs in front of modern beachhouses. It's fun to look at their gardens and decor. Steep side streets run up from it, providing more cute views. Below you, at the bottom of the cliffs, is the Marvin Braude Bike Path. You can watch bike riders zoom by.

There is a workout station at 26th Street, called Manhattan Beach Strand Parcourse.
You can walk 3.2 miles total (one hour) from Manhattan Beach Pier to 45th Street, in the north, and back.
There are restrooms at 26th Street and 36th Street.
After your walk, walk the wide beach to the shore, to breath in the ocean air. Check out the Roundhouse Aquarium on the pier (M-F 2-5pm, S, Sn 10-5, till 7pm during summer). Walk around the fun, surfer-oriented stores on Manhattan Beach Blvd, at the base of the pier. The side streets off Manhattan Beach Blvd also have many cafes. Le Pain Quotidien is in the Metlox Plaza on Morningside Dr and has outdoor seating.
Many blocks back on 17th Street is a park, Live Oak Park, with a cute playground with baby swings and a choo choo train to climb inside. There is a twisty slide, a horse bouncy with a cap on it, and a large tree for shade.
Another nice walkway to try is along Valley Drive, called Hermosa Valley Greenbelt or Veteran's Parkway. The walkway is in a tree-lined vertical park that runs between Valley Drive and Ardmore Ave. You can park in the diagonal parking slots on Valley Drive at 17th Street and walk north to Highway 1 and back, 2.5 miles total.
If you want to extend your walk along The Strand, you can walk The Strand Hermosa Beach from Manhattan Beach Pier, past Hermosa Beach Pier, to 1st Street and back, 4.8 miles. At 35th Street in Hermosa Beach, The Strand switches sides with the bike path and runs directly along the sand.
