There's no way to be bored at Polliwog Park! There are so many different sections with different things to do. The L-shaped park is huge with lush grass, plenty of trees, a lake, and is bordered on one side by a high slope- almost like a wall of grass.
There are many playgrounds at Polliwog Park. The southeast area has a sprawling blue playground with wonderful blue shade triangles over it, plus swings. Black rubber mulch provides a soft surface. There are picnic tables adjacent, with large green shade triangles. A gorgeous area with magnolia trees and grass is nearby for picnics. On the edge of this area, near Redondo Avenue, there is a really cool workout area. Basically it is like a gym but it's outdoors under a shade canopy and instead of lifting weights the equipment is designed so that you lift your own weight. Older kids and adults enjoy this equipment.
In the northwest section of Polliwog Park there's a pretty lake with ducks, surrounded by benches and a picnic gazebo. Kids enjoy feeding and watching the ducks. Here there's a more creative but less shady playground with a very tall slide. It is filled with delights such as frog and turtle sculptures, a lighthouse, a boat to climb in, a splash pad to cool off in, sand to scoop, and a seesaw-type device that you stand up on. My daughter adored it and I was wishing it had shade. There's also another playground here with a seal bouncy and nice slides. This playground is fenced so that parents don't have to worry about their kids walking over to the lake. There are plenty of benches alongside a high slope of grass where kids can throw a ball up and let it roll down to them.
In the southwest section of the park there's a bright grassy amphitheater and hilly areas to picnic in the shade.
Restrooms were yucky so be warned. Otherwise, this was a wonderful place to spend a few hours.
Drive west on Manhattan Beach Blvd and you will come to the lovely Manhattan Beach and its octagonal pier.
