Maria Lanakila Catholic Church is a church that miraculously survived the Lahaina fire. It's garden with mango trees and statues also survived, while beside it is rubble everywhere (in 2025).
It is a beautiful church, with tall arched windows looking out on bountiful mango trees. When you enter, two angel statues hold the holy water in a clamshell. Atop the rose window at the front entrance is a statue of Mary and baby Jesus with arms wide open, while a statue of Mary praying with a rosary stands to the right. Inside, the church is vaulted with white columns. It is really about as pretty as a church can be.
Sit in the church and pray for the people of Lahaina, and thank God for the miracle of this church.
Note: It is very sad to see the broken lampposts, blackened trees, and empty house foundations everywhere. If you are a sensitive person, it can be a very heavy experience.
Be very careful driving here. We crashed into a lamppost's cement base that was not visible from the driver side because it no longer had a lamppost on it, in the church parking lot.
If I could do that day over again, I don't think I would come here, but I am thankful that this church survived.
