The Hollywood Beach Boardwalk, or Broadwalk, is a wide pedestrian and bike path that runs for two miles beside the beach past cafes. It's a fun place in the morning when everyone is out and about getting some exercise. The bike and pedestrian portion of the boardwalk are easy to distinguish from each other as the bike portion is cement and the pedestrian portion is paved in brown bricks. This makes for safe, hassle-free walking. Bring a stroller and take your child for a long walk while you people-watch. You can finish off your walk with some playing in the sand.
The beach itself is cleaned often, though there are still plenty of cigarette butts. It's a very short walk across the sand to the water, which was full of seaweed when we were there.
On July 4 you can watch fireworks while sitting in the sand. They are centered at Charnow Park along the boardwalk, and there are shuttles to help with the parking situation.
There is a beautiful stage with a tropical beach scene painted as the backdrop, on the boardwalk, called Hollywood Beach Theater. Concerts occur five nights a week (Wed-Sun), from 7-9pm. This is a great place to come if you've just arrived at FLL airport and want to get immediately into a festive holiday feeling.
The cafes are a bit rundown but Rocco's Pizza by the stage has nice outdoor seating and good food. There is no AC in some of the cafes so the service isn't always the friendliest. There is a Subway sandwiches, Ben and Jerry's ice cream, ethnic cafes (Greek, Russian, Armenian, Mexican), plus Broadwalk Grill. Or you can eat at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, inside the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach resort, with views of the lush landscaping and water features. There are quite a few bars/grills inside this resort, and one on the 11th floor! Check out the pool as you enter from the boardwalk, with caves and fountains.
After your walk, it's just a short drive to Anne Kolb Nature Center where you can climb the observation tower for high-up views! It is a five minute drive west.
A wonderful place that will fill you with delight is WMODA, Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts, a nine minute drive west.
The middle of Hollywood Beach Boardwalk is around Charnow Park, at 300 Connecticut St. Here you can park in the parking garage for $1.50 an hour. There are restrooms here as well (fairly clean for a city beach).
