It's fantastic to ride a bike down the Ocean Drive boardwalk or stroll down the beach to South Pointe Pier and Park in Miami! Here, the open spaces provide some relief from the chaos on Washington Ave and Ocean Drive. A fake hill provides a bird's eye view of the area. Little paths wind around the hill. The pier is built in a modern style and is a joy to explore. It juts parallel to a granite stone jetty. You can look down between the pier and the jetty and watch jellyfish swoosh by. Square concrete benches provide a place to sit and watch the waves roll in to South Beach. Watch the couples stroll along the shore and the colored lifeguard stands speckled down the beach. The breeze makes it feel like you're not hot and sweaty in Miami!
After the pier, stroll along the promenade that hugs the inlet. There are palm trees galore for shade. Tall modern lamps line the walkway.
Kids enjoy the space-age playground, grass hill with stairs down the side, and splash pad. The playground is shaded with sail canopies and has bridges, swings, slides, tons of rope climbies, and baby swings, all with a view of the water.
South Pointe Park is located at 1 Washington Ave, Miami Beach FL 33139.
There are public parking lots around South Beach, within about a 15-25 minute walk to the park. A good one is at 7th St and Washington Ave, a 23 minute walk.
