Del Monte Shopping Center

Del Monte Shopping Center is a fantastic development with modern chain restaurants and cafes. From the southern side there is a gorgeous view of the forest-covered hills. Everywhere there are pretty things: trees, glowing gas warmers, lights twisted around trees, flower beds, a sea otter fountain. Kids love to check out the fountain with its playful sea otter. A Starbucks makes for a nice place to gather at a table and have a cup of tea together. There are some counter-service restaurants (good for kids who can't sit for long) such as Pizza My Heart (noisy cafe but delicious pizza and salads) and Dametra mediterranean food (with salads, wraps, or plates of rice and your choice of meats- this restaurant has very little seating). For a cozier meal, try the large chain restaurant, California Pizza Kitchen. Come early so it's not so loud and crowded.

Del Monte Shopping Center is an 8 minute drive from downtown Monterey or Fisherman's Wharf. It makes a nice option if you want to get out of the touristy areas and eat dinner with the locals.
There is a Whole Foods Grocery Store across the street.
