The WRAL Azalea Garden is a joy to walk around in spring! Come in early April for the best flowers, including tulips! The garden is artistically laid out so that it's very pleasing! Around every bend there's a fork in the path and choices of where to go. Variegated plants are mixed with Azaleas and Rhododendrons, which makes for a beautiful combination. There are also small Japanese maple trees here and there. Colorful blown glass decorations, metal dragonflies, a fountain, and monkey and frog sculptures are dotted within this medium-sized garden under tall pine trees. A large sunny lawn sits by the garden, framed in April flowerbeds, and there are chairs and tables where WRAL employees sometimes eat their lunch in the garden. In April you can see tulips and incredible orange azaleas! In May, the colors are more subdued but lovely still, with pink and white azaleas remaining.
While in the area, check out Pullen Park, a two minute drive, and NC State University, also a two minute drive away.
For another excellent garden in the Research Triangle, check out the gorgeous large flowers in JC Raulston Arboretum. And of course the world-class Sarah P. Duke Gardens with its lovely flower terraces and lakeside allees.
WRAL Azalea Garden is located at 2619 Western Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27606. This is a TV studio. There is a parking lot especially for garden visitors. Entrance is free.
