Kids always love when they can "cook" you food and then serve it to you in a diner, and this is what they can do at The Children's Museum of Wilmington! Kids can also go shopping in a market, play in several play houses, walk into a sea room, shoot cannons on a wooden ship, play with train sets, and pretend to ride in a train at this large two-storey museum. They can treat a giant teddy bear in a doctor's clinic, lift themselves via a button in a pneumatic chair, pull levers to sound tubular bells in a tower, and harvest oranges from an orange tree. Toddlers have their own separate section.
Afterward, walk to have a snack at a coffee shop or cafe on Front Street, or walk along the Riverwalk, where there are some waterfront waiter-service cafes. Walk inland a few blocks to see the basilica and some wonderful mansions.
Another fun place for kids is Cape Fear Museum of History and Science, which has lots of hands-on activities.
Children's Museum of Wilmington is located at 116 Orange St, Wilmington NC 28401.
Open daily 9-5, except Sunday which is 1-5. Closed on major holidays.
Admission is $10 for adults and children, $9 for seniors and military, and free for babies under one year old.
