On a cute indented piece of waterfront, almost like a cove, sits Dutchman Creek. Here you can watch the little fishing boats go by. There are tiny strips of sand along the water, but it's better to stand on the raised grassy bank where there's no alligators!

The park is a huge piece of lawn, with an impressive playground. Kids won't run out of things to do on this playground. There is a large rock-climbing wall, bridges, a tunnel slide, a road signs station, double slides for racing, a twisty slide, slanted climbies, a ladder,  and a climby with odd-shaped openings.
After, drive one minute to South Harbour Village Marina to check out the names of the boats. There is not much shade here. There is an upscale Italian restaurant called Joseph's.
After, drive nine minutes to Yaupon Pier at Oak Island Beach.
Or go explore the adorable town of Southport. The main strip is Howe Street, which leads inland off Waterfront Park.
