Malaekahana Beach is a secluded beach on the North Shore surrounded by forest. You can go for windy walks along the beach and have it all to yourself. Just out from shore is rocky Goat Island. It adds prettiness to this rugged-looking beach. Swimming at Malaekahana Beach can be nice, though it's not a crystal-clear water/perfect sand kind of beach. There are rocks and it can be howling with wind. There's a slightly spooky feeling here maybe because of the ironwood forest, the wind, the secludedness, and not really knowing if it's safe.
While in the area, check out Laie and the gorgeous drive along the east side of the island.
Or head in the other direction and check out the North Shore with its famous surfing beaches. A romantic spot is Turtle Bay Hilton Beach. For better weather and a great swim, head to Waimea Bay.
Malaekahana State Beach is located at 56-335 Kamehameha Hwy, Laie HI 96762.

My wife and I practically had this magnificent stretch of white sand and blue water to ourselves. (There were no more than five other visitors!) Could not have been more perfect. We went back a second time and there still were few visitors. It's far enough out of the way, yet very convenient if you're on the windward side of the island.
