Portlock Point, or China Wall, is a pretty place to come and take in the ocean. Hawaii Kai residents come here to leap into the water, bump around on their surfboards, or have a picnic on the rock ledge and watch water spray up over the rocks. The sun sets over Diamond Head and it's a lovely scene. Early morning is also delightful here- the sun hits the swirling water bringing out the deep blues and greens. The abundant tropical flowers on Hanapepe Place are covered in dew. People come for early morning walks in this neighborhood.
Just around the corner from here is Spitting Cave, a geological delight with wavey rock formations and a cave that blasts water.
For kids, there's a playground and baseball field on your way back, on Poipu Drive on the right. Let them burn off some energy before the drive back!
If you're hungry, check out the restaurants in the entry called Hawaii Kai Places To Eat.
From Kalanianaole Hwy, turn onto Lunalilo Home Rd towards the ocean. Turn left onto Poipu Drive. Go up the hill. Follow it almost to the end and then turn right on Hanapepe Loop. Park along the road once you see Hanapepe Pl. Portlock Point, or China Wall, is accessed at the little park on Hanapepe Pl.
