Aliso Woods Trail is very wide paved trail (it looks like a road for cars) that you can bike along for miles. It is great for large families with many bikes since it's a wide space.
People also use it to walk 1.5 miles to the trailhead of the Cave Rock and Dripping Cave trail. The path is exposed to the sun, so come early in the day on a foggy day. It can get hot fast! You pass a small dam that is fun to check out. After about 1.5 miles on the wide, sunny trail you come to the creek where you can turn right at the portapotty to take a hiking trail (follow the small brown signposts that say "Wood Canyon"). It is a short walk (0.3 miles) on a dirt path to some boulders and a sandstone arch- this is Cave Rock. There are views of the gorgeous mountains all around. Continue further (0.4 miles) to get to Dripping Cave, a small cave with a picnic area.
This canyon is full of yellow flowers in spring and early summer.
This is a pretty bad way to access a hike, on a wide hot road, so I suggest looking for a better spot. For a long family bike ride in the fog though, it is good!
After, eat lunch at Lupe's at Commons at Aliso Viejo, and enjoy their modern colorful interior. It is a seven minute drive north.
Aliso Woods Trail is located at 2829 Awma Rd, Laguna Niguel, CA 92656. There is a dirt parking lot. You pay at the machine- it's $3 for parking.
