Blanchard Park is a popular park for biking and fishing. It is long and follows a river. There are shady picnic pavilions along the river, and plenty of people setting up multiple fishing lines and even hammocks to stay all day and fish. A wide bike path runs along the river, the Little Econ Greenway. It goes for miles, passing through this park. Part of it is shady and part of it is not. Many people bike and roller blade by so it's a fun scene.
There are two playgrounds at this park.
On top of the river is a dam. You can stand at the top and watch the water flow by. We even saw a turtle trying to swim against the current. We saw some birds but overall there isn't that much wildlife.
If you head east on the bike path, it follows the road called Jay Blanchard Trail. There aren't many cars going by, and there are pretty flowers and tropical trees beside you. You pass the YMCA pool, which looks nice, and a pretty gazebo, plus a steep hill. It's always fun to see a hill in Florida!
Overall this isn't a terribly memorable park, but if you're in the neighborhood it's a nice spot for a bike ride.
Downey Park, nearby, has lovely play equipment and best of all, a super splash pad with views of a lake.
If you have to head west on Highway 408 to get home, stop after fifteen minutes to have a chocolate croissant at Benjamin Bakery, and check out Lake Eola Park while you're there.
You could also drive 16 minutes to Winter Park and enjoy the gorgeous main strip, Park Ave, or the campus of Rollins College.
Blanchard Park is located at 2451 Dean Rd, Union Park FL 32817. There is plenty of free parking in several different spots along the long park.
