It's inspiring to stroll through Kraft Azalea Garden looking up at the breathtakingly tall trees. Check out the tropical vines and Spanish moss hanging from the trees. Lake Maitland shimmers before you. There is a Greek-style exedra (semicircular) monument with impressive columns where weddings are sometimes held. Because of its views, this park is popular with portrait photographers. In February and March, the park is abloom with azalea flowers in white, pink, and purple. There is a large banyan tree in the park.
The park is also home to an egret rookery with birds that make quite an annoying chirp! You can smell the birds and see the poop everywhere. When I was there, twice I saw groups of people look up surprised at the trees, so I'm not sure if they were checking out birds in the trees or what it was!
This park is in a wealthy neighborhood filled with mansions. Continue your stroll through the neighborhood enjoying the slightly hilly roads (this is rare in Florida!). Via Tuscany is a lovely road to walk along. You will be refreshed by all the beauty around you!
If you walk along Alabama Drive to Palmer Ave, you can stand on a white bridge looking past bougainvillea flowers to a narrow canal below. This canal connects Lake Osceola with Lake Maitland.
Afterwards, have a cup of tea on Park Ave while you watch people from the sidewalk cafes.
Kraft Azalea Garden is located at 1365 Alabama Dr, Winter Park 32789. There are a few parking spaces at the park, which is a rare find in this neighborhood.
