Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, Jupiter

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the middle of a small forest! You walk through the shady forest while seeing injured or orphaned animals. The most wonderful spot is the boardwalk that goes through a natural cypress marsh. The trees here are mysterious and gorgeous! You would never know you are in a suburban neighborhood. The only downside is that the sanctuary is beside the sewer plant and on windy days it can really stink. Also, some of the animals like the bobcats and the raccoons have enclosures that are too small and they pace- this is sad.

The volunteers are friendly and eager to share their knowledge with you. At 3pm (2:30 on Saturdays) there is a presentation in the pretty wooden outdoor auditorium where volunteers bring animals around for you to touch or view closely. The tiny owls are so cute!
The enclosures are nice because they are in the middle of the forest! There are bobcats, foxes, raccoons (with a creative enclosure that looks like a front porch), an alligator and crocodile, opossums, birds of all types including some really cool owls, turtles in the cypress marsh, deer, turkeys (man, do these animals look weird!), river otters, and snakes.
Across from the main area there is a short trail that leads to bear and panther enclosures. It's nice that the enclosures are in the forest but it was sad to see the bear pacing along the fence the entire time, and the enclosures for the muscular panthers (that need to run) is way too small.
After your visit, take your kids to play at Eco-Island Playground in Indian Creek Park, just nearby. There is a huge twisty slide and plenty of climbing opportunities.
If you like animals, you will also enjoy Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach.
If you like wildlife sanctuaries, there is a small one in Palm City called Treasure Coast Wildlife Center.

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is located at 2500 Jupiter Park Drive  Jupiter, FL 33458, call (561) 575-3399.
Exit Highway 95 at Indiantown Rd and head toward the ocean. Turn right on Central Blvd and then right on Jupiter Park Dr. The driveway for the sanctuary is on the left. There is a large sign.
Admission is free and there are boxes where you can leave a donation throughout the park.
Open Mon-Sat 10-4:30.
