Saint Germain des Pres is a famous and bustling neighborhood on the left bank of the Seine. Here you can find plenty of cafes packed with people chatting at the outdoor tables, and unfortunately, smoking. There is some good food to be had at the little bakeries scattered all about the neighborhood. It's an easy stroll to the Seine river's most lovely bridge, Pont Neuf and its groovy park below. Pont des Arts is also nearby.
The Abbey of Saint Germain des Pres is a beautiful golden-hued church.
This neighborhood has attracted artists throughout its history, including writer Oscar Wilde and painter Edgar Degas. Les Deux Magots is a famous cafe where existentialist writers Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir gathered with friends. After World War II this neighborhood was a popular spot for jazz clubs operating out of cellars, where you could hear New Orleans Jazz- oh to have experienced that!
Les Deux Magots is located at 6 Place Saint-Germain des Prés, 75006 Paris.
Abbey of Saint Germain des Pres is located at 3 Place Saint-Germain des Prés, 75006 Paris.
