The Coast Walk Trail is a less crowded, more tranquil trail than the path along La Jolla Cove. It takes you uphill from Sunny Jim's Sea Cave in the west to 1555 Coast Walk Rd on a hard-packed dirt trail, with stunning views on vertical cliffs above coves and the sparkling sea. In springtime, colorful clifftop flowers add to the glory. Below you can see kayakers in the water.
The walk is only 500m each way, but you can extend it by walking along the crowded path above La Jolla Cove.
Parking is a problem since La Jolla is a world-famous destination.
The Coast Walk Trail runs from Sunny Jim's Sea Cave in the west to 1555 Coast Walk Rd in the east. It is a 500m long path. There are six parking spaces on Coast Walk Rd, but it is like winning the lottery to get one! Come early! You can also park along the road starting at 1249 Coast Blvd. There are dozens of spots along Coast Blvd- you just have to wait in a line of cars until you find a spot. DO NOT park in the parking lot by Sunny Jim's Sea Cave- the price for parking is not marked but it is over $50!
