Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church is a special place, in Village of La Jolla. You can walk inside, light a candle, and pray, reflecting on your life and travels. From the outside, it beckons you in with its lovely white-washed exterior, wooden door with stars on either side, chunky Spanish architecture, mural of Mary with a star above her, and bell towers topped with. Outside it has a wonderful Norfolk pine tree, and an ironwork arch above the gate. At Christmastime, check out the excellent nativity scene. In the side courtyard is a relief of Mary of Guadalupe and Juan Diego carrying roses. And in front of the church by the street is a statue of Veronica wiping the face of Jesus.

In the foyer, see the wooden sculptures of Mary and Jesus. Inside the nave, look at the lovely wooden pews, wooden ceiling, ironwork lanterns, and golden artwork at the altar.
Inside you can light a candle (electric) under a beautiful sculpture of Mary and baby Jesus, who looks so content. There is a sculpture of Joseph with Jesus as a child, where you can also light a candle. I also love the stained glass window of Jesus and his disciples under a tree. The best part of all is the stained glass window scene of Mary breastfeeding Jesus- what a beautiful idea. There is also a gorgeous rose window with the prettiest colors of turquoise and purple. I spent a long time here, reflecting on my goals and travels, and giving thanks.
After, have a cup of Immunitea outside at Parakeet Cafe, and delight in the lovely day you've had! It is a two minute walk away, at 927 Silverado Street.
